One of the key components of intrinsic motivation is “competence” or the ability to do a good job and keep learning. At work, we learn a lot from other people and from reflecting on our own work through dialogue. Let’s find a way of facilitating that in virtual teams too.
If this is an area that you need to watch out for, your team could do with finding more opportunities to learn at work.
- TOOL: Have an online space or application where you can all share links to articles, events, videos etc
- PROCESS: Have monthly conversations where people share a problem or what they learned from success/failure
- BEHAVIOUR: As manager or team leader, avoid having all the answers – when possible, help team members find out the answers themselves.
